# Troubleshooting

Here you'll find a quick and easy guide to troubleshooting tips for common issues.

Solutions to the most common issues with `rcore_banners`.

## 🖼️ Banner/Poster Visibility

<details>

<summary>Can't see your placed posters or billboard images</summary>

If your banner or poster isn't showing up, it's usually caused by one of the following:

* A **conflicting resource** disables or clears decals.
* Another script repeatedly calls **render-blocking natives**.
* **Graphics settings** or **shader mods** hide decal layers.
* The **resource start order** in your `server.cfg` is incorrect.

**Banner Visibility Helper: `debug_banners_visible`**

This diagnostic command helps identify why banners, posters, or billboard images aren't visible in-game. It doesn't automatically fix issues, but tells you:

* Whether banners are properly loaded and visible on your client.
* Any detected conflicts or rendering problems that may prevent images from showing.

You can also type this command in your **txAdmin Live Console** to run it remotely for testing.

{% hint style="info" %}
Use this helper first whenever your uploaded or placed banners don't appear - it points you toward the cause (resource conflicts, rendering issues, or missing permissions).
{% endhint %}

**What to look for:**

* **Disable any "FPS booster", "optimization", or shader mods** - these often call functions that remove or hide decals globally.
* **Check your graphics settings** - make sure **Texture Quality** and **Decal Quality** are **not set to Low**, as low settings can prevent decals from rendering entirely.
* **Watch out for graphics mods or shader packs** - mods such as **NaturalVision Evolved (NVE)**, **Redux**, or similar packs can change material behavior and break decal rendering.
* **Restart your client** after removing or reordering conflicting resources - some changes only take effect after a full client restart.

If banners reappear after disabling a mod or resource, you've found the conflict.

**Possible script conflicts:**

Another resource may be interfering with decal rendering if it repeatedly calls one or both of these natives each frame:

```lua
SetDisableDecalRenderingThisFrame(true)
RemoveDecalsInRange(...)
```

{% hint style="warning" %}
If you find those natives being called, remove them from the offending script and reach out to us so we can list it as a known conflicting resource.
{% endhint %}

<details>

<summary>Cannot see banners after installing/updating</summary>

Follow these steps to fix banner/poster visibility:

1. Open `server.cfg`.
2. Define `ensure [banners]` as the **last** resource to be started.
3. Clear your server cache - go to `cache/files/` and delete `rcore_banners_assets` and `rcore_banners`.
4. Restart your server.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Recently added banners/posters aren't loading</summary>

1. Open your database and look for the `rcore_banners_list` table.
2. Select the target image URL that isn't visible in-game and open it in a browser.
3. If you can't see any image under that URL (typically for Discord links), it means it's expired - upload it to a [recommended host](/paid-resources/rcore_banners.md) instead, for example gyazo.com.

{% hint style="info" %}
All expired images are surfaced on resource start, to make this easier to spot.
{% endhint %}

## ⚠️ Script Errors

<details>

<summary>Script error: <code>?:-1: table index is nil</code></summary>

This error typically means the script is trying to access a value in a table that doesn't exist - often because it's `nil`.

**Cause:** You're likely using a **new version of the script** with an **old configuration or structure** - especially if you skipped a full reinstall.

**Fix:**

1. Fully **delete** the old folders:
   * `[banners]`
   * `rcore_banners`
   * `rcore_banners_assets`
2. Download and install the **latest version** from [CFX Portal](https://portal.cfx.re/assets/granted-assets?page=1\&sort=asset.updated_at\&direction=asc\&search=rcore_banners).
3. **Do not overwrite** the new version over the old one - always do a clean install.

{% hint style="info" %}
This is a very common mistake - overwriting old files often causes this exact error.
{% endhint %}

## 🪪 Billboard Access

<details>

<summary>Cannot see the billboard marker</summary>

1. Make sure you're in a job that's authorized for billboards (by default: `gov`, `printers`).
2. You should now be able to see the yellow marker below the billboard.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Cannot access or interact with a banner or billboard</summary>

**Banner/Billboard Access Helper: `debug_banners_player`** (client-only command)

This diagnostic tool helps you understand why a player can't access or interact with a banner or billboard marker. It doesn't automatically fix access issues, but helps you check:

* Whether your current job or role allows access to the selected banner.
* If you're within the required marker range.
* Any restrictions or configuration mismatches preventing interaction.

**How to fix access issues:**

1. **Check your current job** - use your framework's job management command (e.g. `/setjob`, `/job`, `/charinfo`) to confirm your active role matches one of the jobs listed in your banner configuration.
2. **Verify job registration** - make sure the job is correctly defined in your framework (ESX/QBCore), and if using a custom job, that it's registered **before** `rcore_banners` starts.
3. **Restart and retest** - update your job if needed, then restart your client or re-log and use the helper again to confirm access.

{% hint style="info" %}
Use this helper whenever players can't see or interact with billboard markers - it helps you identify and fix access restrictions step by step.
{% endhint %}
